Job Summary

We are seeking an Associate Operations Specialist for our Insourcing Solutions Department located in Cambridge, MA.

Provide in-vivo support to clients for technical services. Perform technical training and techniques to include surgical and/or technical procedures on rodents, including dose administration, sample collection, euthanasia, necropsy, anesthesia, surgical preparation, and recovery. Provide environmental enrichment appropriate to species and support to multiple clients lab animal facilities and technical services.

The following are responsibilities relate to the Associate Operations Specialist

  • Provides technical procedure training to less experienced staff and researchers, and provide re-training as needed.
  • Perform technical functions required by research protocols such as assist with dilution and dosing calculations; dosing administrations (PO, SQ, IP, IM, and IN); blood collections (Tail Vain, Submandibular, Orbital Sinus, Cardiac, Submental); Necropsy, tissue and fluid collections as; Tumor measurements, body weights, IBD and /or EAE scoring, behavioral monitoring, etc.; and Rodent telemetry and physiological recordings
  • Assist Operations Manager Provide coverage for monitor animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations and animal husbandry duties to include: performing daily equipment checks; providing appropriate food and water; performing cage changing and/or cage cleaning; recording animal health concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas.
  • Actively interact with research staff to provide technical assistance.
Job Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Associate Operations Specialist position:

  • Education: : Associate degree (A.A./A.S.) in animal or laboratory science or related discipline. Bachelor's (B.A./B.S.) Degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of one to two (1-2) years directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure: Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from AALAS preferred.
Other: Technical experience required includes rodent dosing/inoculation techniques such as PO, IV, IP, SQ and IN, Blood collection from multiple vessels or cardiac, and perfusions; Tumor measurements, body weights, IBD and EAE scoring, behavioral monitoring, etc; Rodent telemetry and physiological recordings; Necropsy, tissue and fluid collections. Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with coworkers, research staff, client and managers. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities and function independently, as well as within a team environment, with minimal supervision. The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
