Summary

We’re working on plans for a 3-month trial of a 4-day week at our Greater Cambridge Shared Waste service this summer. The trial will cover our HGV Drivers and Refuse Loaders. A 4-day week is when full-time staff work 1 less day per week (4 days instead of 5) but still get paid the same salary. It is not the same as compressed hours, which is working the traditional 37-hour week over 4 long days. For part time staff, the amount of hours reduced would be calculated via a pro-rata reduction. The purpose of this trial is to better support the health and wellbeing of our colleagues, while still delivering an excellent service to our residents.

Joint with Cambridge City Council, we have formed a refuse collection shared service and are recruiting for Refuse Loaders to join our team, which delivers high-quality, environmentally sustainable services.

As a Refuse Loader you will be working with a Driver as a team to collect and empty bins into our trucks in a safe and efficient way. We work to high-customer standards, clearing up spilt rubbish and returning bins to the correct places.

Joining hard-working teams with a service satisfaction rate of over 90%, we need people who can bring a professional and friendly attitude. It is essential that you have good customer service skills with a flexible and positive approach.

Roles with the South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridge City Council shared service are based at our Waterbeach Depot for early morning starts.

This role offers a 37-hour working week, a competitive salary, a pension and 25 days annual leave. We also encourage training and development opportunities for all employees.
